Floor Cloths
Floor cloths were used as the primary floor covering in America from the mid 1700s to the 1800s. The oil-painted floor coverings were prized for their beauty, durability, and easy care.
My floor cloths are hand painted on heavy-duty canvas and sealed with a floor-cloth sealer and wax to last a very long time. My floor-cloth designs are unique to my own painting style. (They can also be ordered as gicleés on paper or canvas for wall art.) Use in any non-carpeted area of the home.
Floor cloths have been used for centuries, since the times when folks would weave their own flax, coat the cloth with linseed oil and use them as floor coverings to keep down the dirt. As a precursor to linoleum, most were not decorated, but, as time went on, designs were applied and they evolved into a very popular and durable decorative floor covering up until about the 1930s.
Floor cloths can be custom designed and whatever size you want. Floor cloths are priced at $25 per square foot.
Wash with water-no scrubbing.
